News hardware Petrol and diesel cars soon to be banned across Europe: the commission has set a date
One more step towards electromobility has just been taken in Europe: Pascal Canfin, President of the Environment Committee of the European Parliament announced on his Twitter account the results of the votes framing the new CO2 emission standards for thermal cars . Despite a rather mixed result, the verdict has just fallen: manufacturers will no longer be authorized to sell new diesel and gasoline cars in Europe from 2035.
A result shared between MEPs
With 46 votes for, 40 against and 2 abstentionsthe Parliament’s environment committee was quite divided on the adoption of this new law which should upset the current standards over the next few years. An essential step in carbon neutral by 2050.
This bill will be submitted at the beginning of next month to the vote of all the members of the European Parliament during the plenary session. Step that will allow the various legislators and leaders of the 27 countries of the European Union to adopt the final rules specific to each country. Some countries such as Germany will anticipate this date and ban the sale of new thermal cars from 2030.
This ban only concerns the sale of new cars and users will still be able to drive thermal cars after this date. Clearly, you can still drive a petrol or diesel car bought new before 2035.
By 46 votes for, 40 against and 2 abstentions, the Environment Committee of Parliament 🇪🇺 votes the new law governing car co2 emission standards. The end of the sale of non-zero emission cars in 2035 is voted. See you now in plenary at the beginning of June

The electric car is becoming more and more popular
In recent years, the electric car has been more and more talked about. It is more and more present on our landscape. UFO a few years ago, it now manages to convince more and more users at a time when fuel costs are exploding. With a market share in strong progression with nearly 10% in 2021, the year 2022 should be exceptional as demand is strong with increasingly long waits. It takes more than a year to wait. to be able to get your hands on a Tesla Model 3 propulsion.
Builders on the alert
The various manufacturers did not really wait for the passage of this law to adapt and offer ever more 100% electric models to customers.. Alpine and Abarth are the good students of this ecological transition and are counting on 100% of their models for 2024. It will be necessary to wait until 2026 for Jaguar, Lancia and Audi, which are aiming for the end of thermal energy.
The Italian car manufacturer Alfa Romeo is betting on 2027, Opel on 2028. Bentley, Cupra, Fiat, Ford, Mini, Mercedes, Rolls Royce, Volvo and Renault, more cautious, are counting on 2030 (with only 50% of its range in 100% electric for BMW).
This transition will take place even on the side of supercars with, for example, Ferrari and Porsche which will launch their electric thoroughbreds from 2025. The vast majority of manufacturers will be ready before the fateful date of 2035 with the bad students Hyundai and Volkswagen which will wait limit.
