Starfield : le créateur de God of War fustige le Boss d’Xbox après le report des jeux Bethesda

Game News Starfield: God of War creator blasts Xbox boss after Bethesda games postponed

While Starfield and Redfall were firmly expected for the end of 2022, Bethesda recently communicated their postponement to the beginning of 2023. A very disappointing announcement that made part of the gaming community react. The creator of God of War has a very clear point of view on the matter.

A report that hurts

Bethesda was to impress us this year with the releases of Redfall and especially Starfield. The latter is expected by many players as the next Xbox revolution. A revolution that will take a little longer than expected, since we will have to wait until the beginning of 2023 to be able to get our hands on it.

Bethesda and Arkane Studios respectively announced that they needed “more time” for the development of their game. A disappointing announcement but which is becoming more and more frequent in the video game industry these days. For his part, Phil Spencer, current head of Xbox Games Studios, also reacted to these delays by stating that “quality and consistency are expected, and that we (Xbox) will continue to work to achieve these expectations.” Statements commented on by several industry players, starting with David Jaffe, the creator of the God of War saga. And the least we can say is that the creator is far from appreciating Phil Spencer’s working method.

Heavy criticism of Phil Spencer

It was during his podcast that David Jaffe spoke about the postponement of Starfield and Redfall, violently castigating the Boss of Xbox.

You suck, Phil Spencer. You are like me when I was 28. I knew I could design, I knew I had business ideas at the time, my brain was wired straight to the zeitgeist. It took me seven, eight, nine months to understand that I couldn’t produce a game at all, let alone a game that I was also directing… It made me realize that we are good at certain things, and bad to others. (…) You’re not good at that Phil Spencer. You are not cut out for this role. You can’t be that guy…

At first glance, you might think that David Jaffe is not a big fan of Phil Spencer. Despite this very clear point of view, the creator underlines a part of the genius of the Xbox Boss, whom he describes as “visionary”.

Don’t fire Phil Spencer. Phil Spencer is a visionary. I love his vision for Game Pass, and if someone could take his place, he could be the initiator of wonderful changes for players and the art of video games (…). You are so close, Phil Spencer. Your plan is perfect, your infrastructure for these studios is perfect, it’s great – but you can’t direct (…).

Faced with these statements, there is still little chance that Phil Spencer will take them seriously and leave his post. In the meantime, we hope to have news from Starfield and Redfall soon ahead of their release in the first quarter of 2023.
