Rugby. Pro D2 : l’US Bressane crée l’exploit contre Colomiers et croit toujours au maintien

US Bressane achieved a huge feat by dominating Colomiers with the offensive bonus for their last game of the season at home, Friday evening (34-13). This is his first victory against a member of the Top 6 this season.

A success that allows him to believe more than ever in maintaining before the final day of Pro D2 which will be played next Thursday.

The offensive bonus snatched at the last second

Despite the stakes, Bourg-en-Bresse, penultimate in the standings, had one of their best matches of the season. Colomiers, who was aiming for the top 4 and a play-off at home, never managed to put his game in place.

Not successful, his striker Romuald Seguy missed two penalties at the start of the match (13th, 17th), before being countered in his in-goal by Alexandre Badet… an offering from which Pierre Santallier took advantage to register the first try of the meeting. Already the author of two penalties before that, Thibault Olender did not tremble to give the Violets a 10-point lead in front of more than 7,000 spectators (13-3, 29th).

Bourg-en-Bresse will be saved if it wins in Grenoble and Rouen loses in Bayonne

The pace was still as frantic at the start of the second period. Youssef Saaidia put Colomiers back on track thanks to a lot of work on the ball carried (13-10, 49th). But the Violets responded tit for tat by Cyril Veyret, again on a carried ball (20-10, 51st).

Reduced to 14 after a voluntary forward from Johan Deysel (59th), Colomiers came back to score on a penalty from Maxime Javaux (20-13, 65th). But Bourg-en-Bresse resumed its forward march and finally gave itself some air on a trickster try from Marius Antonescu (27-13, 76th).

Galvanized, the Violets continued to play and offered themselves the offensive bonus on a collective action of 80 meters concluded by the aggressiveness of Malietoa Hingano, in a boiling Verchère stadium (34-13, 80th +2).

Despite the victory of Rouen, first non-relegation, against Béziers (26-21), everything is possible before the final day. Three points now separate the Normans (14th) from US Bressane (15th). Bourg-en-Bresse will therefore be saved if it wins in Grenoble (13th) and Rouen loses in Bayonne (2nd). All hopes are allowed.
