It’s been many years now since Roller Champions was announced. In fact, Ubisoft’s free-to-play sports game hit the nail on the head in 2019, at E3. Players who had followed the Ubisoft conference at the time even had the opportunity to test it to see what to expect. Today, nearly three years later, the title finally has its release date and, surprise, it is imminent.
Indeed, you won’t have to wait long to get your hands on Ubisoft’s game, since the title will flood our gaming platforms (PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S) this week. next, either from next May 25. To accompany the news, Ubisoft has also released a brand new trailer (which is available above).
New in Roller Champions
Since we got our hands on the game in 2019, the rules of Roller Champions have not changed, two teams of three players equipped with rollerblades compete in a circular arena and the first team to score five points by throwing a ball into a goal wins the game.
In Roller Champions, two teams of three players will compete to be the first to score five points. To score points, all you have to do is throw the ball into the goal several times. But that’s not all: the more laps the players take around the arena, the more points they will get, provided their team stays in possession of the ball. They will have to skirt the walls of the arena, effectively use several tackling and dodging techniques and finally, coordinate with their teammates to claim victory against their opponents and roll towards glory.
However, even if the rules are the same, the game arrives on May 25 with its share of new features. Indeed, the title welcomes Custom Matches, but also new maps to browse and Ranked Matches which offer players to climb in ranks by winning many games. If you want to train, and this, without the fuss, note that the Skate Park is also making a comeback.
The launch of the game also comes with a very first Season, Season One, which already includes a Roller Pass which has a total of 41 cosmetic rewards, like clothes for your hero. Of course, there is a free part and another for Premium players.
Finally, note that Roller Champions is cross-play and cross-progression and will later land on Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia, Amazon Luna, iOS and Android. In other words, free-to-play will be available on all current platforms.
