Expected at the turn during Game 1 against Golden State, Luka Doncic had a most complicated evening on the floor of the Chase Center. However, he wanted to warn his Californian opponents afterwards, with a cash report on his performance.
It is therefore necessary to believe that the pressure has finally caught up with him. Unless it was the Warriors defense that ended up suffocating him. Whatever, Luka Doncic signed one of his worst career playoff games on Wednesday. Determined to start the Western Conference finals strong, the leader of the Mavericks delivered a performance worthy of that of his team, namely clearly insufficient.
Relatively well launched in the first half (18 points), the Slovenian completely foiled in the second, scoring only 2 small points (1/6 shooting, 0/3 to 3 points) and at the same time accumulating 6 losses of ball. He can blame for it the enormous work done by his appointed defender at the Dubs, but also establish his own self-criticism. This is what he did in a press conference.
Luka Doncic promises heavy for the next matches
Despite the humiliation suffered a few minutes earlier, Doncic did indeed go to the journalists to answer their question. He was thus able come back to the nasty blow he received during the meeting, but also on its disappointing performance. No way for him to hide his face regarding his performance, which he intends to revise upwards for the rest of the series!
Luka Doncic: “I gotta be better, that’s not me. I gotta be better for the whole group.”
— Callie Caplan (@CallieCaplan) May 19, 2022
I have to be better, it wasn’t me on the court tonight. I have to be better for the whole group.
Luka is aware that he must do better in his next outings if he wants to reach the Finals for the first time in his career. The coming days are therefore likely to be studious for him, while his mission will be to find the parade against Golden State. For this, he should chain video sessions and hours in the room, so as to prepare an explosive revenge.
So Dubs better beware, because nothing is more dangerous than a wounded beast. They also have every interest in remaining focused between now and Game 2, which will be held this Friday, so as not to be surprised by the Mavs and lose home advantage. Until then, however, they can find confidence in a stat that would almost seal their qualification after this first victory!
Luka Doncic knows that his copy returned during Game 1 could in no way allow his team to win, and will try to correct the situation in the next meetings. The Warriors have been warned!
