Take-off is postponed again
It is in a video posted on the game’s YouTube channel that Nate Simpson, creative director of Kerbal Space Program 2, announced that the title would be pushed back further. Originally, Kerbal Space Program 2 was supposed to be released in 2020, then pushed back to April and then fall 2021, before being postponed to this year. We now know that KSP 2 does not won’t be released in 2022 no more. In the video, he explains:
Hi, this is Nate Simpson, creative director of Kerbal Space Program 2.
Lately when I go to the forums, as excited as people are to see more development progress reports and screenshots, there’s one question that keeps coming up: “When will this game really get out?”. Well, I can finally answer that question. KSP 2 will be released on PC in early 2023, and on consoles after that.
We are creating a game of immense technological complexity. And we have assembled a team of passionate and talented people to achieve this goal. But we have also set ourselves very high quality standards.
The game should perform well on a wide range of machines. The graphics should be second to none. The universe should be rich and interesting to explore.
Internally, we have set ourselves the goal of creating an experience that is both original and breathtaking. And as I mentioned before, we’ve strengthened our team with the developers of the original Kerbal Space Program, and together we’re creating something that we’re all very, very proud of.
I can’t express how important it is for us as a team to have the support of the community who understand the importance of creating a high quality game, even if it means taking a little more time.
Thank you so much for believing in us, we look forward to flying with you soon.
Kerbal Space Program 2, a collective work
the development of Kerbal Space Program 2 has been somewhat hectic since the announcement of the project at gamescom 2019. The Squad studio, responsible for the original game, had handed over to the Star Theory Games studio. Later the project had changed hands againpassing under the control of an internal studio at Take-Two and based in Seattle, Intercept Games. Now developed by Intercept Games and former Squad players, the title promises to many improvements compared to its predecessor. In particular, we are promised a more welcoming game for inexperienced players, less difficult to tame. Some of the major feature additions include the space colonies, which will allow interstellar travel.
Kerbal Space Program 2 will be released on PC in early 2023. It is expected to release on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, and Xbox One later in 2023.
