The agenda should therefore be essentially financial, because the urgent issues are there. Gérard Lopez, president and owner of the Girondins, announced losses of 30 million euros to the directors in early April. In January, he had yet advanced the figure of 43 million to “South West”, in accordance with the budget forecasts provided to the financial policeman last year.

“The main lines”

“The CA should help set the main lines of the club’s reconstruction project following relegation, in view of the rescue plan implemented since last July,” said a source close to the club. It is therefore a question of how the hole for this season will be plugged and how the 2022/2023 budget will be financed, while the reduction in revenue will be significant.

In recent hours, Gérard Lopez was discussing with the creditors Fortress and King Street about the debt of 50 million euros to be repaid in 2025. “This project is developed with the full support of King Street and Fortress, who will take, as Jogo Bonito (holding of Gérard Lopez, Editor’s note), their responsibilities to allow the club to find the elite as quickly as possible and ensure its sustainability ”, we assure Haillan.

20 million Lopez?

Everyone must therefore make an effort, the American investment funds but also Gérard Lopez. As part of these discussions, the two lenders, in particular Fortress, ask him according to our information to assume his role as shareholder and put 20 million euros on the table. Last summer, when the Girondins took over, he had invested ten million euros through Jogo Bonito.

Fortress has already given up ten million debts last summer. He has been mired in the Bordeaux project since 2018 alongside King Street which, for its part, injected more than 100 million euros into the club when it was the majority shareholder. Both are well aware that their chances of seeing their already weak 50 million claims will decrease further with relegation.

They hold a good part of the destiny of the Girondins in their hands: in addition to the fact that they have the possibility of dismissing Gérard Lopez and/or of carrying out a forced sale, which is not the trend, their goodwill hoped for in the face of the additional difficulty encountered by the club will be decisive.

The flowchart will wait

These 20 million do not include the 20% on any capital gains made on the sales of Jules Koundé and Aurélien Tchouaméni. Likewise, the windfall received thanks to CVC’s acquisition of a stake in the LFP’s commercial company (8.25 million euros expected in July and the same sum next June) and the parachute provided for by the League in the event of downhill (approximately 7 million euros) will be budgeted for next season.

The degreasing of the professional workforce will represent the bulk of the reduction in expenses (110 million euros this season) and the sales of players will bring in cash. The plan will be presented to the DNCG probably around June 14, and Gérard Lopez will have to prove that he has carried out his mission to avoid an administrative demotion as a precaution in National.
